Successful Students

Watch This ‘Space’

Exciting times with Mrs McCormick, Mrs O’Connor and Mrs Pekin travelling to New Norcia with some of the schools current and previous Year 6 students to launch coded messages into space! The STEM project and messages were initiated and written last year with the intent of launching them via the European Space Station (based at New Norcia). What a thoroughly exciting and momentous event this was for our students! Well done everyone – you have put Dalkeith on the intergalactic map!

2nd place in the 2016 Young ICT Explorers Competition

Year 6 students Mack and Marco have been awarded 2nd place in the year 5/6 division at the WA judging event of the Young ICT Explorers Competition with their creative invention. ‘Oh Buzzer!’ is designed to alert people when they are on their mobile phone that they are about to crash into an object or person. The device uses an Arduino microcontroller board, sensors, a buzzer and a case that was designed using the Makers Empire app and 3D printed at school. The boys had to code their Arduino to detect an object within 1 metre and set off a sound to indicate an object. A fantastic example of how technology can be used to solve a real life problem. We are very proud of their achievement.
